From the high quality submissions received for the SIA-ICI Colour Awards, a trend is
observed towards greater sophistication in the deployment of colour as a strategy in advancing
architecture.
This shift from the mere splashing of loud colours to grab attention augurs well for Singapore's
architecture. The greater depth and inventiveness in colour management using muted tones to enhance
spatial and textual qualities of architecture is a mark of the progress and greater confidence in
the profession.
The winning entries are a cut above the others by substantiating their colour concepts with evidence
of research, contextual response and perhaps, theoretical exploration.
