Award Winner for Hypothetical Application Category Bar Café Architect: Richardho Architects Excerpt from Judge’s Citation: …The form and function of the boardwalk Bar Café make use of two HunterDouglas® products from the Luxalon® Architectural Product range. The entry shows a highly tropical buildable design adopting an innovative and indigenous use of materials to reflect modern technology. At the entrance-curved wall of the Café, Luxalon® Quadroclad Cladding Panels are used. Gaps between panels are created to facilitate natural and cross-ventilation. On the beachfront, a moveable Luxalon® Sun Louvre System is incorporated into the design. The system allows the user to close the panels in the day for sun-shading and opens them fully for the evenings for natural ventilation and an unobstructed full view of the sea. The closing and opening of the panels is operated by way of a cylindrical motor. Through motorisation, the flexibility of horizontal and vertical sun-shading according to the needs of the user can be used.
